USS CALCATERRA (DER 390)

Fleet Post Office

New York, 09501

6 November 1970

Dear Calcaterra Friends and Relatives,

As I promised in my last Familygram, I now have some definite word on our schedule. We are now in Malaga, Spain until 9 November, when we get underway for Rota, Spain. We should get there that night and leave the next day after fueling. If the weather is good for our return trip we will pull into Key West on Friday, 20 November. Bad weather could delay us a day or two. You can find out our arrival time by calling the Ship movements number in Key West – 294 2911.

After we get in we expect to go into a leave and upkeep period until the first of the year. After that our schedule is still undetermined. Since my last Familygram, we have had three days in Athens to rest and relax before starting the long trip back. A good many of the crew took advantage of the excellent tours to historic sites around Athens.

While in Athens we received four new shipmates who have been trying to catch us for over a month: CS2 Charles W. Thompson, from NTC Orlando, Florida; ETRSA Dennis S. Butler, from NTC, Great Lakes, Illinois; SA Derek W. Owens, from U.S. Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, Virginia; and Ensign Skip DILL, from U.S. Naval Justice School, Newport, Rhode, Island.

If you have any questions or problems feel free to write at any time.

Sincerely

Signed: (H. B. GRAFF)
